Observed & Overheard:

We all exaggerate, we all embellish, we make good stories better, we make average stories interesting, we all try to be witty, interesting and engaging.  It may surprise you that I don’t strut about my house in posh knickers and 5inch heels.   Some people lie about their age, shaving a few years off, or lie about their appearance, showing RL pictures from 10 years ago.  When does lying become too far?

Part of it comes down to how you ‘play’ Second Life, some people are just themselves, others are role playing, they have created a persona and when these 2 types meet, there can be hurt feelings.  For the record, I have no issue with Role players, or people playing a different gender, or playing a completely different character to their real one, but it all goes wrong when someone is RP’ing and insisting that it’s the real them, and people get emotionally involved, and attached to that person.

There are many shades of grey, however there are a few things that are completely unforgiveable in my opinion.  Faking serious illness, to solicit sympathy or money from concerned friends, or faking the serious illness/disability or death of a child.

  2. Too many people fake things on the internet. It’s harder to fake in real life. And just plain sick.
